The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at The Game Awards — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

As any major prize-giving event approaches, there’s always an outcry for introducing of new categories to recognize unsung work and fill the hearts of fans with niche passions.

Another commentator previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. So would board games, representing a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me if I try to elbow in front because like all dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request is the most urgent and significant. Here's the proposal: There should be a category for puzzle games.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and inevitably spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that cinema institutions steer clear of genre categories. Yet it remains a necessary evil for the industry of video games, showing incredible range it's challenging to consider them a single creative category.

For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.

Current Gaming Award Categories

Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these classifications successfully include a lot of ground, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

Not so for puzzle games. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Consider three of recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: structural challenges of one title, the pulse-pounding block-matching from another release, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Which classification works among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

The Representation Problem

Numerous examples exist excellent brain-teasers published annually that have no home at major award shows, if they accidentally match for categories like Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, and the highly challenging independent game categories.

  • An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition completely during that awards season
  • A different innovative game missed out that year
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment recently
  • Only a few brain-teasers scraped into niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

These are often small games, however the design in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games stand as the most-played games globally continuing this trend for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience rivals well-known building titles for the title of most purchased experience; it additionally competes as greatest title ever. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with almost every other genre.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. It would be easy to populate five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.

Restating the point, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories at major gaming awards. Logic title developers operate at the demanding boundary interactive creation, creating some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Comparable to film action specialists, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay generations.
